Microsoft Viva is a new platform delivered through Microsoft teams, bringing together technologies for communication, learning, resources and insights.

Microsoft has recently launched Microsoft Viva, the first employee experience platform to deliver tools for employee engagement, learning, wellbeing and knowledge discovery, which fit directly into the flow of everyday work. Microsoft Viva is being rolled out to existing Microsoft 365 customer tenancies and will become available to all Teams’ customers over the coming months. The platform brings together some existing Microsoft services and introduces exciting new solutions to support employee wellbeing, productivity and development.

Microsoft have announced four Viva components with further expansion of the platform coming soon. The four Viva components are:

  • Viva Insights (available now)
  • Viva Topics (available now)
  • Viva Connections (coming soon)
  • Viva Learning (coming soon)

Viva Insights

Viva Insights is a Teams integrated solution which combines the data-rich services of Microsoft 365 tools, MyAnalytics and Workplace Analytics and enhances them with exciting new features. Viva Insights is aimed at both individual employees and managers, as it can track productivity and wellbeing at a personal and business-wide level. Individual identities are data-protected when providing leaders with impactful business-wide insights. The goal of Viva Insights is to nurture employee wellbeing and avoid burnout. For example, detecting when a team has too many meetings and not enough focus time, allowing managers to identify this issue and take corrective actions.

Viva Topics

Viva Topics is an Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered solution that automatically organises content and expertise within Teams into related topics. These topics include projects, products, processes, and customers. Using AI, Viva Topics turns content into usable knowledge. Once surfaced, this knowledge can be shared and refined through curated topic pages that AI automatically generates and maintains. An example of how this could work in practice is adding detail to the code name of a product or project. When this name appears in a Teams chat, AI will highlight the name so the user can click the hyperlink and a topic card will appear. The card will describe what the product or project is, the team members involved and any related resources it finds on the topic. This conveniently brings helpful resources and information into the flow of work.

Viva Connections

Microsoft Viva Connections is a new service coming soon to Microsoft Teams. Viva Connections is an enhanced landing page that will appear when the Teams client is launched. Acting as an intelligent hub, the content is AI curated based on what is useful to the user. It provides everyone with a personalised destination to discover relevant news, find conversations and access the tools they need to learn and be productive.

Viva Learning

Microsoft Viva Learning is another new service coming soon to Microsoft Teams, to create a central hub for learning. The platform allows people to discover, share, assign, and learn from content libraries across their organisation. Viva Learning includes LinkedIn Learning, Microsoft Learn, third-party content providers, Learning Management Systems and your own company content. The aim of this service is to integrate knowledge into the places people already spend their time, which will increase learning engagement. When people find it easy to upskill, it improves employee happiness, wellbeing and organisational success.
