Q and A with our Head of Modern Workplace
Our Head of Modern Workplace shares why he loves working with Microsoft technologies so much, how Microsoft has been a big part of his career, and what he is looking forward to most about Microsoft Inspire 2022.
Firstly, tell us a little about your background?
I have worked in IT for over 23 years and over that time I have focussed on Microsoft solutions. I started life in IT as a regional IT manager for a hotel chain, before getting involved with Windows 2000 deployments and using the early version of Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM) – then called Systems Management Server (SMS). With the constant changes to how we work, the continual absorption of digital usage into employees’ daily work, and the ever-evolving technology solutions my career has been shaped around the Modern Workplace realm. I relish the next iteration of seeing how we can improve our customer’s digital experience.
What’s your specialist Microsoft area, and why do you love working on Microsoft?
NextGen Modern Workplace has always drawn my affection because I get to work with our customers, Microsoft, and partners to provide an exceptional digital experience. Microsoft dominate this area with devices such as the Surface, and software including Windows 11, Azure Active Directory, and Office 365.
What’s the top question you always get asked about Microsoft?
Please explain the licensing model!
What do you feel customers need the most support with?
Getting the best value from their licence purchases.
What’s your best Microsoft success story?
Deploying thousands of Microsoft Surface devices to our customers’ employee’s homes and offices across the US, UK, and EU. This was supported by a next business day delivery and breakage service.
How do you feel working with Microsoft helps us be a better partner?
Microsoft drives an immense amount of innovation, and the speed of that innovation is always increasing. Our challenge is the ability to respond to that change, show that we can deliver these new solutions, and provide feedback on how they can be improved.
What partner tools do you feel help you do a better job?
Microsoft has always provided development tools and services for their solutions so that as a partner we can understand how any new solutions work, how they integrate with existing systems, and what the benefits are to our customers. The dev environments allow us to develop our own products and services to complement those from Microsoft.
What are you most excited about in the year ahead with Microsoft?
I’m really excited to see innovation from Microsoft in sustainability. We have a responsibility to ensure our business operations function in an environmentally sustainable way, but we can also help our customers realise the business opportunities that can come from adopting a comprehensive sustainability strategy. I’m keen to understand how we can partner with them to implement and support sustainability solutions.
