Copilot Licensing Explained

Previously, only large enterprises with 300 or more licences on an Enterprise Agreement had access. There is no longer a minimum purchase requirement. Customers now have the flexibility to purchase any quantity they need annually upfront, across all agreement types. However, users must meet specific prerequisites, including having Microsoft 365 Business Basic, Business Standard,  Business Premium, E1, E3, E5, Office 365 E3, E5, or their academic equivalents. Additionally, the collective sum of Copilot for Microsoft 365 licences cannot exceed the qualifying licences.

The Secret to a Successful Copilot Deployment

Achieving a successful deployment of Copilot for Microsoft 365 is the pot of gold many organisations are chasing. Early adopters have reported a significant productivity increase, with approximately 70% of users experiencing improved efficiency. To achieve success, organisations must focus on identifying suitable use cases, workflows, and departments. A well-orchestrated Microsoft 365 environment, including services like Entra ID, Data Loss Prevention, and SharePoint site restrictions, is crucial. Telefónica Tech’s Copilot readiness assessment can help customers with all aspects of this.

Copilot through CSP (Cloud Solution Provider)

Copilot for 365, available through the CSP programme, offers customers flexible billing options and value-added services. Organisations already set up with CSP can seamlessly integrate Copilot into their existing licenses. Moreover, customers gain access to benefits such as Customer Success Manager support and the ability to access licences directly through our revamped licensing store, where they can manage licenses according to Microsoft’s new licensing rules.

Here they can co-term their licences. They can increase existing subscriptions, add monthly SKUs and then also manage upcoming renewals so that they don’t get hit with a barrage of renewals at different times and different dates. They can also preset their renewals in our store as well as access Microsoft 365 usage data.

The Future of Copilot: A Future Day in the Life at Work

Looking ahead, the future of Copilot holds immense possibilities. Imagine meetings where Copilot-generated notes trigger automated workflows through cloud-based solutions like Power Automate, enhancing productivity and efficiency. Prompt engineering initiatives across different verticals and organisations promise exciting prospects for innovation and growth. I’d love to just fast forward into a year’s time and just see what a day in the life at work looks like and how organisations have adopted different AI services.

Building a Business Case for Copilot

Some employees in your business may benefit from a Copilot licence more than others. To quantify the value of these models consider using time-motion studies to calculate the time saved for end users compared to the cost of the licence, and the hourly rate of the user. This will help identify, the elimination of time-consuming tasks, and the value this provides back to the business.  Getting a thorough analysis of who would most benefit, what are the key components of a successful deployment, how much the additional licensing could cost and the choices that you have is a vital component of deploying Copilot successfully.
