Celebrating Youth Skills Day UK 2023: Insights from Summer Marketing Intern Chloe Lawrence
Hello, my name is Chloe Lawrence, and I am one of the new marketing interns at Telefónica Tech for the summer of 2023. My role involves supporting the marketing team with various lead generation and brand awareness activities, providing me with valuable industry experience.
In celebration of Youth Skills Day 2023, I’m sharing insights into my journey at Telefónica Tech and how this internship has expanded my skillset in marketing.
My Path to Telefónica Tech
As a marketing student at the University of Strathclyde, having just completed my third year, I decided to use my summer break to gain practical marketing experience. When Telefónica Tech was hiring summer interns, I saw it as a great opportunity. Although I hadn’t previously envisioned working in the tech sector, I now find it fascinating and full of growth opportunities.
The Covid-Era Student
Being a student during the COVID-19 pandemic was challenging, and networking opportunities were limited. Gaining summer work experience was essential to prepare for future roles. Telefónica Tech provided me with hands-on experience with marketing professionals in a Microsoft Gold Partner organization, which is especially exciting given the recent acquisition by Telefónica Tech.
Finding My Feet
With a short 10-week internship, I was eager to make a significant impact and learn as much as possible. Starting alongside another intern was comforting and made the adjustment easier. The company’s onboarding process was informative and streamlined, allowing me to dive into tasks confidently.
Initially, the tech industry was overwhelming, with many new terms to learn. However, the team has been incredibly supportive. Working with marketing professionals has been eye-opening, showing me the versatility of marketing roles. I’ve been involved in creating and distributing social media content, writing blogs, and designing email campaigns, which has allowed me to apply my university knowledge in a practical setting.
