Power BI Update June 2025

Microsoft released latest Power BI update on the 11 June, the full details can be found on the Power BI blog. It is a light update this month but here are a few things that caught my eye.

It is Power BI 10th Birthday

Power BI is having its 10th birthday; this means events to celebrate and a new loading screen in the desktop with the various logos from the ten years. It is also a great opportunity to review your implementation of Power BI and make sure you are following current best practices and making optimum use of it. It is chance to look at your roadmap and develop a plan for the future.

Over the last decade Power BI has changed a lot from the product was originally launched. It has moved from a tool mainly aimed at self-service users to one that supports enterprise and self-service use cases. The options available and the best practices for Power BI has evolved over this time and the anniversary represents an opportunity to review your implementation and develop a roadmap is for the future. Telefonica Tech have a proven approach for this that we have used with multiple organisations. If this is something you be interested in, please reach out to us.

Power Query editing in the web for import models

You can now edit import models on the web, while I definitely prefer the desktop I’ve repeatedly come across frustrated Mac users and giving them and others without easy access to the desktop this functionality is a positive step.

Org Apps

I wrote about Org Apps which allow multiple Apps to be created from the same workspace when they were first introduced and there are three updates to them announced here

Org Apps are currently in public preview and these new preview features are welcome additions to help address some of the issue with them.

Sparklines

Sparklines are now generally available, it is good to see a feature that has been in preview for a while moving to be generally available.

Conclusion

Power BI 10th birthday still sees new functionality being added and represents a great opportunity to review the state of Power BI in your organisation and create a roadmap for the next 10 years.
