Power BI Update August 2025
Power BI Update August 2025
Microsoft released their latest Power BI update on the 12 August. The full details can be found on the Power BI blog. It is a light update this month but here are a few things that caught my eye.
Copilot
As always at the moment, there are some Copilot updates. This includes the ability of Copilot to write measure descriptions becoming generally available, although in the desktop it still says “preview”. If you have access to Copilot as a Power BI developer, I recommend using this feature, to help add measure descriptions. You may need to edit the output, but it can save a lot of time populating measure descriptions.
To access the feature, go to the model view and select a measure and an option will be available in the “Properties” pane.
When you click, it will generate a preview of the measure descriptions which you can choose to keep or discard. If you keep it, you can edit it.
Org Apps in Pro Workspaces
I wrote about OrgApps in December 2024 and am pleased to see the preview coming to Pro workspaces. The main change is that Org Apps allow multiple Apps to be created in a workspace instead of just one. This gives those managing Power BI content greater flexibility. If you’ve not been able to try these due to previous limitation of requiring a Fabric SKU now is your chance.
Semantic Model Refresh Templates with Fabric Data pipelines
Another preview feature, this creates a low code experience to set up more complex refresh scenarios for example refreshing a semantic model after a dataflow refresh. This does require a Fabric capacity as it uses Fabric data pipelines.
Setting them up is easy, open the semantic model:
You can also access the templates from within Data Pipelines:
Once you’ve opened the template you will need to configure the pipeline for the scenario. You can also add in actions for success and failure for example a Teams message if the refresh fails. The default templates immediately give more flexibility than the default refresh options in the Service and would previously have required working with the API or another tool to achieve.
