Building trust and momentum
Using Cloudability, I began analysing their estate and identifying areas of inefficiency. I structured the audit into waves of optimisation, each one designed to be digestible and actionable. This phased approach helped prevent the customer from feeling overwhelmed and gave them a clear path forward. It also allowed us to build trust and momentum quickly. One of the most striking discoveries came early on.
I found two forgotten resources that, once removed, resulted in drastic annual savings. That moment really underscored the importance of visibility and ownership in cloud environments. It also validated our decision to start with a cost audit. The savings weren’t just financial, they were strategic. They gave the organisation a clear reason to invest further in FinOps and something tangible to present to senior leadership. As the engagement progressed, the return on investment became increasingly clear. By the midpoint, we had delivered an estimated 400% ROI, and more savings were expected as we continued through additional waves of optimisation. Beyond the numbers, the organisation gained a clearer understanding of their cloud estate, a roadmap for future improvements, and the confidence to take the next steps in their FinOps journey.
