On Friday 26 May 2023, a group of 11 Columbus State University students, accompanied by their professors, visited Telefónica Tech’s Glasgow office for a half day event packed with exciting and interactive sessions on what it’s like to work in the technology industry. The visit aimed to expose the students to real-world applications of digital innovation and provide them with a glimpse into the dynamic field of technology, highlighting the similarities and differences between British and American organisations.
With its reputation for excellence in digital transformation and innovation, Telefónica Tech was selected as the ideal organisation for the students to learn from industry experts. The visit began with an introduction to the company’s mission and values. The students were then treated to a series of engaging presentations, led by our knowledgeable team who shared their expertise in digital transformation, cloud computing, data analytics and cybersecurity.
The interactive nature of the visit allowed the students to actively participate in discussions and ask questions, enabling them to gain deeper insights into the challenges and opportunities associated with digital transformation. Over lunch, they also had the chance to engage in more informal conversations with Telefónica Tech’s professionals, who generously shared their experiences and provided career advice.
Dr. Neal Thomson, Professor of Management at the university and leading the student group, expressed his excitement about the visit, stating, “Exposing our students to industry leaders like Telefónica Tech is invaluable for their academic and professional development. The first-hand exposure to cutting-edge technologies will undoubtedly inspire and motivate them as they embark on their careers.”
For the students, the visit was a unique opportunity to witness the practical implementation of concepts they had learned in the classroom. The day provided them with a broader perspective on the potential impact of digital innovation across various industries and emphasised the importance of staying ahead of the technology curve.
Steven Brown, VP, Business Applications at Telefónica Tech, remarked, “We were thrilled to host the talented students from Columbus State University. Sharing our knowledge and experiences is an integral part of our commitment to nurturing the next generation of digital leaders.
